Walking through Zoo Lake, the geese appproach us in swarms... waddling in a fierce race to reach us first, in case we have treats for them. When they realize we are empty of crumbs, they quickly dissapate... but not before we spot this little swimmer with his great feet. The kids and I have been noticing the different kinds of birds here... we need to find a birding book.... and a zoom lens.
is that some sort of crazy, pre-historic extinct bird that only the DiCocco family has discovered? You guys could be famous!
ReplyDeleteI would send you our "Birds of North America" book but somehow think that wouldn't do you a whole lot of good...

It looks like a cousin to the Kiwi (found in New Zeeland), perhaps this is the swimming member of the family: The leaf toed wake maker? ...rolls off the tongue, doesn't it?

Apprently, this is the "common Moorhen" according to our new birds of South Africa book. under the "notes" it says "one of the most widely distributed birds in the world." I guess we need to get out more! Ha.
